Coal

On the 7th day of Christmas RtD gave to me…coal?

Energy-Coal-Resources

So there’s been a hiccup. The true 7th day chapters will be posted up a little late, most likely alongside the 8th day chapters. For now all I have is coal.

Seriosuly though thanks so much to the RTD team i hope you don’t kill yourselves with this event.

did anyone manage to RaisetheDead Echo at the end of day six after the Echosplosion?

Solpower

Ah, actually most of that work was done by Freeyomone, Echo just edited them and scheduled them for posting, in fact those chapters have been ready for a little while. That said Echo has been working really hard across many other projects. Here’s hoping he doesn’t completely burn out haha.

teehee, thankyou Freeyomone, very much appreciated, well the whole team πŸ™‚

the “Echosplosion” was in reference to the comment before the sixth chapter (time for Echo to explode) i also think it has a really cool ring to it!! …. but dont do it too often…

I had posted some Loli pics .. that might have re-energized Echo.

May I ask what’s the deal with coal for naughty kids in Christmas? At my place, we don’t have such thing as a Coca Cola dude living in the arctic with flying reindeers, but we have do Olentzero filling an extremely similar role. And Olentzero brings coal to naughty kids, because he lives in a mountain making charcoal as his main occupation so he has tons of the stuff to spare. I’m not sure how that’s justified if coal is internationally accepted as a gift for naughty kids, maybe it has some extra religious symbolism I’m not aware of? Just… Read more »

No coka coala drinking polar bear?

gianoria7

I don’t think it has any religious symbolism… Santa is the complete oposite of anything religious after all…

From where I’m from (Belgium), we celebrate Saint Nicolas. I think his treatment of naughty children changes according to the country, but where I’m from, the naughty children are whipped into obedience.

Beware Krampus.

In Belgium, it’s Zwart Piet (Black Pete)/PΓ¨re Fouettard (Father Whipping). Well, it’s the same origin as Krampus. The only difference is the degree of demonification. Originally, I think it was a man covered by a black coat, with his skin black of soot/coal (and sometimes with horns or tails). He would go around whipping bad children, giving them coal afterward. And if the children were very naughty, he would just kidnap them. For the pineappledealer’s question about the coal for Chirstmas, it’s probably just because the USA didn’t change that much about the legends they stole from Saint Nicolas. And… Read more »

Thanks, that was interesting. I tend to drop by Belgium rather often, I’ll ask around next time I’m then (if I remember).

coal mining is a dirty and horrible job filled with danger even in todays world and it was much worse back then. The miners would come home covered from head to toe completely blackened from coal soot. As if they were covered in sin. The idea of “sinful” or bad children getting coal and the good children getting gold (which is nearly its polar opposite) isn’t that surprising if you ask me. Here is the wiki for what I found nothing about coal but lots about gold so i made a few assumptions based on what I know about coal.… Read more »

Not many remember this, but there is a mythological monster called Krampus who visits those who are on Santa’s naughty list, beats them and gifts them coal.

At very least in Western culture this is where the coal gifting stems from.

Sol just needs someone to whip him to sleep for giving coals

Santa…
I’m pretty sure that Krampus is one of Saint Nicolas’s possible helpers.
I would like that people stop confusing Santa and Saint Nicolas.
Santa is just a plagia created by the USA in order to gain more money.

But without the social and opportunistic ideas set on Christmas… We wouldn’t have mini-santa outfits!

I’m not into slutty outfits, so I don’t care.

To be fair you could just claim to way ahead of schedule since the “twelve days of Christmas” haven’t even started yet. “The twelve days starting with Christmas Day, or in some traditions, the day after Christmas (December 26) (Boxing Day or St. Stephen’s Day, as being the feast day of St. Stephen Protomartyr), to the day before Epiphany, or the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6, or the Twelfth Day). Twelfth Night is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “the evening of the fifth of January, preceding Twelfth Day, the eve of the Epiphany, formerly the last day… Read more »

Oh, we know we’re doing this from the wrong side, but this means our 12 chapter dump is on Christmas and we like that idea better.

xRciri

January 6 is also the day Christmas is celebrated in Ukraine, as far as i am aware they are the only ones who do that.

but that explanation on the 12 days explains to me why that might have started.

Thanks
